Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup vegetable juice V8 or tomato juice
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce or 2 generous splashes
  • Creole spice blend
  • 1/2 tsp. smoked paprika for a rich, smoky flavor
  • 1/2 tsp. celery salt
  • 1 1/2 oz. vodka suggested brands: Crescent, Magnolia, or Tito’s
  • 1 tsp. prepared horseradish
  • 4 dashes Crystal hot sauce
  • 2 dashes Tabasco sauce
  • Sugarcane stick
  • Jalapeño pepper
  • Cherry pepper
  • Pickled okra
  • Freshly cracked black pepper
  • Coarse sea salt

Instructions

  • Start by gathering all your ingredients. Lay everything out on the counter. This makes it easier as you move through the recipe. Slice your garnishes in advance, so they’re ready to go. Having everything within arm’s reach makes the process more seamless.
  • In a cocktail shaker or mixing glass, add the vegetable juice. Then, add the Worcestershire sauce, Creole spice blend, smoked paprika, celery salt, prepared horseradish, and both hot sauces. Give it a good stir to blend everything together. You want it to be well-mixed.
  • Now, pour in the vodka. If you prefer a less boozy version, feel free to cut down on the vodka. Stir gently to ensure the spirit is incorporated without dissipating the ingredients’ vibrant flavors.
  • This is where you can tailor the drink to your liking. Taste it! If you want more heat, add extra hot sauce. If it’s too strong, a splash more vegetable juice can mellow it out. This cocktail is meant to be enjoyable, so feel free to adjust according to your preference.
  • Grab your choice of glass—a tall, sturdy one works best. Pour the Bloody Mary mixture into the glass, filling it almost to the top. Now comes the fun part: the garnish. Use your sugarcane stick as a stirrer, add slices of jalapeño and cherry pepper, drop in a few pickled okra, and finish it off with freshly cracked black pepper and a sprinkle of coarse sea salt.
  • Sit back and admire your creation. The vibrant colors and diverse textures practically shout to be enjoyed. Take a sip and embrace the harmonious blend of flavors.

Notes

  • Choose High-Quality Vodka: Not all vodkas are created equal. A quality vodka will result in a smoother drink, enhancing the overall experience.
  • Homemade Creole Spice Blend: If you have time, make your own blend using garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, oregano, thyme, and black pepper.
  • Fresh Ingredients Matter: Whenever possible, use freshly squeezed juice and home-pickled garnishes. Freshness enhances the flavors significantly.
  • Chill Your Ingredients: Keeping your vegetable juice cold helps create a refreshing drink.
  • Make It a Meal: Consider adding grilled shrimp or olives for a heartier, elevated experience.
